Guest Lecture on ‘Role of private institutes to promote technical education in Rajasthan’ by Shri Vipin Chandra Sharma, Principal Secretary, Technical Education  at Global Institute of Technology, Sitapura

Enlarge ImageShri Vipin Chandra Sharma, Principal Secretary, Technical Education visited GITS on 20th November 2011 to deliver a guest lecture on ‘Role of private institutes to promote technical education in Rajasthan’. Excerpts of his address to the students:
“…I recall the days when bright students had to head to our neighboring states for a career in engineering. But today the scenario has changed as in  the recent past there has been a tremendous increase in the number of engineering colleges in Rajasthan. No doubt, it is a boon for the state but at the same time, one cannot ignore the fact that the level of quality of education has deteriorated. Hence the private colleges are facing a tough time to live up to the expectation of the student community.  The only way is to provide the learners something unique every year. It is the time of ‘survival of the fittest’ and hence I believe GITS has a long way to go.
It is a matter of great pride that GIT has been doing commendable job in terms of quality education since its inception. I congratulate the entire team and management   for aiming at the overall personality development of the students.

One of the reasons for which students prefer GIT s is the transparent admission process which gives opportunities to meritorious students…”

Dr R C Bansal is a visiting professor at the University of Queensland, Australia. The main thrust was on the need for shifting paradigms in technical innovation. The basic idea was – quoting him - “to understand how teaching could be made better in Indian context”. Comparing the line of thinking of the University of Queensland and that of Indian system of training Engineering students, he explained his outlook by way of presenting wide array of data pertaining to various branches of Engineering, viz. Mechanical Engineering. Also, he emphasized, and tried to ensure, active participation of faculty and students in choosing teaching methodologies, setting the curriculum that caters to the immediate requirements of industry, and conducting value-based research. He delineated these points by referring to one of the new branches at the university – Teachers’ Educational Development Institute (TEDI). This branch is made responsible for examining the effectiveness of any course that is being conducted by the academia. Further, being specific, Dr Bansal introduced the concept of iLab in his talk. He explained, by practically performing the experiment, how simulation is effective in the various branches of Engineering. He concluded his speech with a question-answer session.
